The Women’s T20 Clubs Competition Semi-Finals will take place at Wits Main Oval this weekend. The tournament, which started on the 24th August, will boast an all-women’s team on the pitch. The Central Gauteng Lions have made women’s cricket a key focus area as the sport continues to thrive in South Africa.
Teams that will be playing this Saturday boast talented young players like Palesa Mapoo who plays for Soweto Pioneers Cricket Club. She captained the team to a win this past weekend scoring a half century against Wanderers Cricket Club as well as a century against Sandton Cricket Club. Mapoo, who represents Central Gauteng in the CSA Women’s Senior Provincial League, is one to look out for in the future.
Another potential star that will partake in the club tournament is 12 year old Karabo Miso who plays for Soweto Cricket Club and had an exceptional knock this past weekend against Sandton Cricket Club scoring 58 not out.
One of the key games to keep an eye out for will be Delfos and Vaal, taking place on Saturday and will include four Central Gauteng Senior provincial players.
This year’s Club T20 Competition will for the first time host an all-women’s team. Girls and Women’s Cricket Administrator Takatso Mkhwanazi says that she’s requested they go one step further;
“We requested for the Gauteng Umpires Association and Scorers Association respectively to allocate women umpires and scorers to stand at these matches as this will mark the end of Women’s month.”
The dates of the final are yet to be confirmed.
